Import your ChatGPT and Character.ai chats into an AI Self
Moving from ChatGPT or Character.ai doesn’t have to mean starting from zero. Upload the official export file, pick the conversations you want, and your Throughline Self can look them up when you bring them up.
Import your chats → Start chatting free
What you need
A ChatGPT data export (Settings → Data controls → Export data) or a Character.ai data export (in the app: Settings → Privacy → Export my data). Upload the ZIP you receive by email, or the JSON file inside it. Files up to 60 MB.
You choose what comes in
Before anything is saved you see how many conversations and messages the file contains, the date range, and how much room your plan has. Pick individual conversations or all of them. Importing the same file again skips what is already there.
How your Self treats imported chats
Imported conversations are kept as records from another app. Your Self can search and recall them, and they are part of your export. They don’t rewrite its personality or rules, and it won’t present them as things you did together. Any change to how it behaves still needs your confirmation.
Plan limits
Each imported conversation uses one memory. Free keeps 500 memories per Self, Pro 20,000 and Alive 100,000. If you pick more than fits, the most recent conversations are imported first and the rest are skipped; nothing you already have is deleted. Very long conversations are shortened to their beginning and end.
Privacy
The file is read to build the preview and is not stored. Only the conversations you import are kept, and you can view, retract or export them like any other memory. Recall is helpful but not perfect.
